The 13th

It being Friday, I was stuck behind the wheel.  I had to drive out to Cuyahoga Falls, then back to downtown Akron for a meeting at 9:00am, then back to Cuyahoga Falls, and then back to Akron.  While on my second trip back to Akron this morning I picked up the Varsity from Fall's Wheel & Wrench.  Since I don't have all the proper tools, there were a couple of things I wanted checked before hitting the road.  They also installed some sweet gum wall tires.  Its such a relief to have matching tires!  The bar tape came in on Wednesday so I have something to keep me occupied this weekend.  Then, I'll be able to bust it out of the stable in time for next week's commutes.

All was going well up until I arrived home to stash the Varsity before the impending storms arrived.   The garage door went up, then refused to come back down.  A two minute stop turned into 10 minutes of tugging and mild swearing I pulled it down manually.

Great.

It never fails that something with this wonderful old house breaks while the Mr. is out of town.  Never.  Fails.  Tomorrow he is heading out for several weeks in Germany and Luxembourg (famous for being the native land of the Schlecks and Team Leopard Trek).  While he's pedaling his hotel rental bicycle along quaint cobbled lanes, eating in French cafes, and visiting Trappist Monasteries I will be here trying very hard not to be insanely jealous or bitter.  He promised to bring some Belgium chocolates home so that helps.  But, I ask you, how did his engineering job become more exciting than my archaeology/history job?

Tonight we are heading up to Cleveland for the controversial IX Beer Fest.  Since it is Friday the 13th I'm prepared for things to get mighty interesting.  Then tomorrow we'll be hanging out up there until it is time for him to catch his flight to Germany.  Therefore, I will be missing out on the highly anticipated Pajama Night Ride with Century Cycles.  That is a bummer, but I'm sure everyone will have a great time.

Since I will be off the bike today and tomorrow, I hope to get in a decent spin on Sunday.  They're calling for rain until next Thursday, so whatever riding I end up doing its guaranteed to be wet.

Have a great weekend everyone.  Good luck to those doing the Towpath Century!

Pedal Safe!
