Cuz There's Castles

When people ask me why I'm willing to move to another country, leave everything I know, where they don't celebrate Thanksgiving, and English isn't common- all for my husbands job, I usually reply because it's a great place to ride my bike.  The only people that didn't give me a weird look when I said that were the guys at the bike shop.  Usually I have to follow it up with "and also cuz there's castles."  Then they get it.  Everyone likes castles.  Admit it, they're pretty nifty.  When you were a kid, there's a good chance you pretended you were in castle at some point, either as the damsel in distress or the brave knight storming it.

I really like castles.  Really.  When I started my degree in archaeology my goal was to be a medieval archaeologist that excavated castles.  Well, obviously that didn't happen, but for the next three years I'll get to hang out in them as much as I want.  Today, we ended up with more free time than we expected so we had a chance to visit one of the castles nearby Ettelbruck.  There are seven castles nearby, by the way, so they call this area the Valley of the Seven Chateaus.  The one we visited was Bourscheid that has been in ruins but is slowly being reconstructed from historical and archaeological research.

Enjoy!

There it is from a hill above where we picnicked from

Here's a panoramic view from the top of this tower.

Those guys way down there are the archaeologists.  Slightly jealous.
