All Good Things...

Well, my dear readers, we're fast approaching the two year anniversary of this blog and as the milestone comes into view, it seems like it's a good time to say farewell.

Why?  Well, it's pretty simple.  Back when I started this blog is was about bike commuting in Akron, Ohio and pretty much all that it entails.  Since the move it's gotten pretty disjointed, and much more difficult to maintain.  I can no longer write about riding in Akron.  It's next to impossible to write about bike commuting without actually doing any commuting.  Even though I'm riding more than I ever did before, it's not the same type of riding.  I don't drive a car anymore, not because I've mastered the zen lifestyle of doing everything by bike, but because I really don't need car.  At all.  Cycling is not a lifestyle anymore, it's a sport.  Despite the fact I'm sure you're fascinated with our travel experiences, there are a gazillion travel blogs out there.  There are quite a few about being an expat in Luxembourg too.  In the end, the original purpose of the blog no longer applies and when that happens it's time to say goodbye.  If not it'll just sadly limp along, grasping at straws.  I feel like I've been grasping and limping for a while now.  Letting this go will give me time to pursue my other interests like photography and painting.  Not having to sit here trying to put something on the screen is going to going to free up a lot more time to, oh, get out and explore more of this fabulous place we're in.  Don't worry, I'm still riding my bicycle and now I'll get to do that even more.

Anyway,  to those that have been faithful readers, thank you so much for your support, comments, and for sticking with it.  I really appreciate all of you stopping by and having a read.  It has been an amazing experience.  I have learned a lot and am eternally grateful for the opportunity.  A huge thank you to all I've met through this blog and for those that have helped with bike questions, repairs, etc.  While not perfect, I know my cycling is at least better because of you.

If you want to fill some void this blog will be leaving behind (haha) there are some fabulous commuter blogs out there.  Bike Commute News is an excellent resource for tips and reviews.  Road Rights over at Bicycling Magazine is a lifesaver when it comes to understanding road laws and what to do if your rights as a cyclist are violated.  If you can handle an overabundance of sarcasm and bitterness and a mild obsession with David Byrne, Bike Snob NYC is entertaining.  Another one that is worth a read is From the Pavement's Edge which is a great little blog about being car-light in Colorado.  Plus, the author just finished an attempt at the Leadville 100.

So, I will be leaving this up for a bit if for some reason you want to print something off or whatever.  Eventually for security reasons I'll be taking the 'ole blog down.

It's been a great ride.  Thank you again, everyone.

Keep pedaling safe!

  1. Well, I for one am disappointed! I really enjoyed your blog and most especially your Tour de France commentary, which I posted a link to over on Team Estrogen. They loved it. You are an excellent writer and blogger both. That said...I totally understand. I have been maintaining our Belize blog for over a year now, and I'm getting burned out on it as well. At times it is hard to come up with new and interesting things to write about, and sometimes I'm so busy taking photos or figuring out how I'm going to blog something that I forget to enjoy the experience. I am still grappling with how to deal with that. Thanks for letting us know, though, and not just fading away, as so many blogs do. You will be missed.
