Here Goes Nothing!

This morning I will be heading out an all day ride around Akron with a friend.  Don't worry, I'm not skipping out of my duties, this is for a new program that we are starting next week.  I and my friend will be leading hikes through Akron that talk about the history of the city.  They start next week and go through August. Since we both prefer riding over walking, we decided that we'd do our recon work from two wheels today.

This will be the longest ride I've done so far this year.  Between the weather, my hectic schedule, and some pesky issues with my left leg I have mostly just been doing errand running and commuting.  So, I'm actually a little nervous.  My fitness is at a low level due to said obstacles and I haven't had dedicated saddle time in the last couple of days.  I think I'm going to be pretty sore tomorrow.

Last night, I was out in the Falls and stopped by Giant Eagle to get things for this weekend and to pick up some Powerade or Gatorade and some Clif Bloks for today's ride.  I was shocked to discover that they are "phasing out" their Gatorade and they don't carry Powerade or Clif Bloks.  The only thing they had was SoBe, some off brand I've never heard of, and the last of their Gatorade supply in the giant bottles.  I'm not a huge fan of sports drinks because of the sugar, but the newer low calorie Gatorade is tolerable.  Of course, they no longer carried it and that I was forced to buy the big, not bike compatible regular jugs.  I didn't want to get the other brands since I'd never had them before and didn't want to risk being grossed out.  As to their other energy products, all they had were PowerBars.  I prefer Gu chews or Clif Bloks on rides instead of the more fibery and chocolaty protien bars.  But, alas, it was all they had.  So, I'm not real confident about my fuel today.  Oh well, what can you do?  Well, for one thing, never shop at that store again!

When I got home, I finally took care of the FX's needed adjustments so I'll be taking that.  The Varsity is still in need of a cargo rack...

Anyway, I'm really excited to get out of the office and enjoy the beautiful sunshine and much cooler weather.  We couldn't pick a better day for this!  I'm truly blessed to have the opportunity to regularly combine my job and my hobby.  Hopefully I'll have some pictures to post next week from today's ride.  Also, I'll be trying out a new bicycle app, BikeBrain, to map it for me.  I've officially dumped MapMyRide since it always erased half my routes or crashed without logging anything at all.

The Mr. returns home tomorrow (of course he's leaving on the day the Tour of Luxembourg officially starts) and we will be heading down to the Hocking Hills area with some friends for the weekend.  He and a buddy are running the Warrior Dash on Saturday, so that will be entertaining for sure.  The bikes are staying home since the dog prefers hiking, but we'll still get some good outdoorsy time in.  There will also be abundant relaxation.

Have a great weekend everyone and pedal safe!
