Our task today was to choose the car we are going to lease while we are here, I mean, my husband had to choose one. The Company gave us the choice of an Audi or a BMW, either which would have been just fine, in my opinion. However, the husband is a little more choosy so for him it was a major decision. I guess it's like picking a bicycle, so I can't make too much fun of him. I guess. Anyway, he decided on the BMW, so now he can rest easy.
Besides that, we investigated the local supermarket, The Cactus. It's basically a Wal-Mart, but with an attached mini mall. There we stocked up on some groceries (I was elated to see they had ketchup flavored crisps!) and some items we forgot. One thing I did notice was designated bicycle parking with racks that would actually cooperate with locking up a bike.
We also had some McDonald's for lunch! Silly, I know, but it was the only thing open at the time. Most restaurants close at 2pm after lunch and don't open for dinner until 6pm. If you are off schedule, you don't have many options. However, the McDonald's here is much tastier that what we have in the US. The beef tasted like real beef and even the fries were more, uh potatoey. So, if you miss lunch, McD's isn't too bad of an emergency option.
While we were test driving the BMW, we were able to see more of the countryside. Everything is so picturesque, rolling hills, tiny hamlets, and thick forests. This evening we drove to the village of Vianden, near the German border. The village sits below a magnificent castle and has all the old world charm you would expect. I'm looking forward to having more time to explore it and the castle.
That's all for now. Tomorrow is All Saints Day, a national holiday. So, we won't be conducting any business, just sightseeing. Our hotel has some bikes to rent and we will take them around the area to explore Ettelbruck where we are hoping to live. Perhaps we'll pedal to another castle. I will have more pictures from tomorrow for sure!
