Getting There Is Half The Battle

What is that saying?  "Its not the destination, its the journey that matters?"  Well, our journey to Luxembourg was quite the experience.  I suppose you have heard about that Snowtober storm that pounded the Northeast yesterday.  It successfully shut down almost all the airports on the coast from Philly to JFK.  Of course, we were supposed to go to JFK.  Thankfully, the airline was able to reroute us through Detroit.  Unfortunately, many others were not so lucky and the behavior of the irate masses was astonishing.  It's amazing how adults can immediately revert to immature children when something goes wrong.  I have to say, the patience of the airline workers was inspiring.  If someone had spoken to me the way all those customers were, I would not have responded so calmly.

So, after a nice respite in the Detroit airport, we boarded our plane for Frankfurt, which was booked with all the transfers.  Just as we pulled away from the gate, the crew realized we didn't have enough food on board for everyone.  An hour was spent at the gate tracking down enough food for the passengers.  Then, just as we started pulling away from the gate, the plane stop.  A voice came over the PA, "Ladies and gentlemen, is there a doctor on board, please?"  I've always wondered if I would ever hear someone say that on a plane.

Turns out, not one, but two people (completely unrelated) had gone into seizures!  So, we had to pull back up to the gate and the paramedics had to remove them from the plane.  Then, we waited another hour while they located their baggage.  Finally, a full two hours late, we took off for Frankfurt.  The flight itself went very well, expect when the attendant forgot to serve me dinner and later stole my pillow for another passenger.  But, all in all, it was a pleasant flight.  Business class certainly beats Economy even without food or a pillow.  We even landed in Frankfurt with plenty of time to catch the flight to Luxembourg, despite mass confusion in Customs.

After arriving in Lux, we picked up the rental car and drove around the city for a bit.  We were too busy trying to figure out where we were going to take pictures, but we'll definitely be back later in the trip for some proper sight seeing.  After that, we headed to our hotel just outside of Ettelbruck.  On the way, we passed through the most beautiful old forest I'd ever seen, in the height of its autumn colors.

We've also seen many bicycles, both on the trail system and in the city.  The hotel we are in for the next few days rents out beater bikes, so we will be touring the area by two wheels on Tuesday.  So far, I'm really impressed with Luxembourg.  I can't wait to call it home for the next few years.

Anyway, whoever said the journey is more important than the destination was dead wrong.
