Wow! I can't believe I haven't written anything in over ten days! I guess there hasn't been much to say, certainly not much about bicycles. I haven't ridden one in weeks.
The week we moved out of our house Century Cycles boxed all of the bikes for shipping so the movers wouldn't destroy them in transit. From what they tell me, they'll be able to float from all the bubble wrap. At least if everything else is mangled, the bikes are pretty much guaranteed to arrive undamaged.
A bit of advice if you happen to be moving with bikes you care about. If you have hire a moving company, even a good one, leave the bicycle packaging up to your local LBS. We've heard a few horror stories about bicycle abuse committed by movers. I do believe one of the stories ended with a fork that had been sheared clean in half! Our movers seemed pretty competent, but they admitted they don't like moving bikes either. They don't understand how they come apart and are afraid of breaking them.
Two of our bikes are being air shipped while the rest are bobbing about on the Atlantic. There's just as much risk of banging about on the planes as there is on the boat. If you ever fly with your bike, once again, it's best to have them professionally packed. You can purchase hard cases if you travel often, but if it only travels occasionally, a professional packing will do just fine for the cost. Century Cycles only charged $75 a bike, well worth the peace of mind.
Well, while our bicycles are enjoying their Atlantic cruise, we're hanging out in an apartment in Fairlawn. It's right off the highway in the middle of nowhere. Besides watching old classic films on TV, there isn't much to do. Without a car there isn't a way out, so the dog and I walk around the apartment complex. Unfortunately, it was built on a marshland, so we're walking around parking lots. It's pretty dull.
Thankfully we only have three weeks left, because I'm desperately craving a bike ride.
