Obviously, things look pretty different around here. I struggled with the best way to transition Back On Two Wheels for the move in a couple weeks. At first I thought I'd start a second blog and leave BOTW for only bike stuff and the new one would be about everything else. However, the more I thought about it I realized I wouldn't be able to separate the cycling from everything else. It will become an even bigger part of my life than it had been before. For the first time I will be living my life without access to a car. Everything I need to do will be done from two wheels or by foot. Of course, this is all possible because of where we will be living. Living in Ettelbruck will open doors I never thought possible in Akron. The car free life won't be as challenging, frustrating, or unique as it is in Akron. That in and of itself going to be quite the adjustment, and I think my cycling followers will be interested in hearing about it. Of course, there's going to be much more about the next three years in Lux than riding my bike. We will be experiencing a completely different way to live altogether. If sharing some of that can be of use to those looking to travel or move to Europe, that'd be good too.
So, this blog is still going to be about bike commuting. It's also going to be about a couple of Americans from Ohio living in completely different country. It's going to be about being open-minded. Its going to be about meeting people, seeing new places, trying new foods, and struggling through another language. It's going to be about gripping the handlebars and digging in when the road of life takes a detour (hence the title change).
Honestly, I have no idea where this detour is going to end up, but I'm looking forward to the ride (hopefully it won't have too many hills).
We look forward to following this detour along with you. What an exciting journey you have ahead!
