Today we finally were able to enjoy the cycle paths (pista cyclable). The river was down to its proper levels and except for some residual mud here and there, the paths were clean. We rode south today through Colmar-Berg (where the Grand Duke lives) and a few other small villages until we arrived at Pettigen where we turned around. Originally, I had hoped to get to Mersch, but when we arrived at Pettigen we were pleasantly surprised to discover a ruined castle. It seemed the perfect place to pause before heading home. The sun goes down around 4:45-5:00pm and with the temperature hovering just below freezing, we didn't want to roll in at dusk. All in all, the ride was incredibly enjoyable. The paths are wide and paved, well marked, and very smooth. None of the hills were beyond my limited fitness either. Of course the scenery was amazing too. This time we took the dog in his Burley trailer. He had lots of blankets and a couple of hot water bottles to keep him warm. However, he still isn't a fan of riding along behind and so he whined most of the time. He did get to run around a castle (something most rescue dogs from AK-Rowdy don't get to do), so he really had nothing to whine about. Of course, people we passed were very entertained. Speaking of the people we passed, it seems there's no rhyme or reason to where pedestrians walk on the trail. Some walk on the left, some on the right, some in the middle. It's a bit frustrating and reminiscent of the Towpath on Saturday afternoon. They also seem to be a bit oblivious. I was shouting "Pardon!" with no response. I guess I need a bell...or an air horn. Heh. Oh well, no place is perfect. At least the few minutes we were on the road the drivers were very respectful. That is certainly a huge change.
Ok, without further ado, here are pictures of the day's ride which was about 17.5m. Not bad for the temps and the additional unhappy passenger.
What beautiful photos and scenery! Glad you are finally able to enjoy cycling in your new home.
ReplyDeleteI just did this same route last week - it's really easy and beautiful. Just wondering, what app did you use to get that route map above?
ReplyDeleteKasia, for that route I used MapMyRide. That route is a lot of fun.
